The coronavirus pandemic has drastically impacted our daily lives for several weeks now and had an impact on our savings. There is nothing quite like a roller coaster of a stock market to wreak havoc on our emotions and long-term perspective about saving.

We wonder if we stayed in the market for too long. When it comes to a fund that I have the majority of our daughter’s college savings in, I need not wonder. I know that I left it in a little too long with the hope of eeking out just a bit more of a gain before I cashed it out. Whoops!

We question whether or not we are invested properly and agonize over what the market will do next. We agonize over what we should do next.

If you feel like you should be doing something, here are six things you can do to help you cope in this uncertain time:

1. Control the negativity.

We hear this one a lot. My boss often tells me when it comes to things that fall within the political realm that, “perception is reality.”

Take a step back for a while from the news, the bold headlines, and other things that are unnecessarily alarming. After all, all media outlets and everyone who participates, myself included, are seeking eyeballs and clicks just like always.
