I feel as though I should begin this story with an apology.

It’s not that I owe you anything. For that matter, you do not owe me anything either. Many times, it seems as if it is a Dog Eat Dog world out there and nobody owes anybody anything.

So I have not written anything compelling for quite some time. So sue me!

Speaking of suing, I wish that I could share more about my younger brother’s legal triumphs. True, his triumphs are not my own, but I am the person with whom he most shares them and I am proud of the kid. He made over half a mil last year, but more importantly, he is fighting the good fight. John Grisham could not write a better character than my younger brother, and after a case that he is working on goes public, he just might.

Me, not so much. I toil and toil for little more than one-fifth of that amount. With my community’s paltry two percent raise kicking in on May 1st, my salary will rise from about one-thirteen to one-fifteen. Big whoop!

I often must remind myself that remaining gainfully employed and getting a two percent raise is far better than the alternatives of getting no raise at all or the worst-case scenario, being laid off or unable to work and having to rely on our too-low savings, unemployment benefits, the kindness of others and the few dollars that I scrape together on…
