I love reading. I like to write. I like money.

Well, it is not so much that I like money, in itself. It is more that, like millions or perhaps even billions of others, my family and I need and desire goods and services that money can provide. Beyond using the medium of exchange for things that my family and I require, such as food, shelter, and transportation, I also desire more money to pay for things that fall more into the category of “wants,” even though many of those things have become expected in our case.

Examples that come to mind include paying for both of our children’s undergraduate college educations, tuition at our daughter’s private dance studio, one-on-one music lessons that both of our children have taken for many years, fencing classes and tournaments that our son participated in for years, horse riding lessons that our daughter took, tennis lessons that both of them took for years, orthodontia for both of our children and the list goes on and on…

Between our family’s ongoing expenses including college for our son and my steadfast commitment to Paying Ourselves First, anywhere from a low of around $8,000 to a high of around $14,000 leaves our checking account on a monthly basis. Well over $120,000 made its way in and out of our account last year including an even $17,000 that I invested.
