I am quite guilty of the "pay yourself first" mantra even if it's only $50. But as a solidly middle-class low six-figure earner, I have been shamed twice as recently as this past month, once for sticking with our pay-as-you-go Tracfone Samsungs instead of iPhones and another time for driving to and from Ohio to visit my son instead of flying and renting a car.

I will try harder to be more empathetic to the truly poor although the vast marjority of people who I come into contact with are fairly well off.
