Are You Sitting Down for This?

“I hope that you’re sitting down for this.”

I have both uttered these words and have had them said to me, and more than once.

What follows is never good news, and having been both the deliverer of the news and the recipient, it sometimes actually does go a little better if one is sitting.

But I stand more now.

Having been a good worker bee in local government organizations for over twenty-seven years now, since I was a newbie twenty-two-year-old college graduate, I have had desk jobs throughout.

True, I had to run around quite a bit including many days and nights covering criminal court on behalf of the Cook County Adult Probation as detailed in my 700-plus page tome on the matter, The P.O.: A Probation Officer in Chicago.

I have also driven to and walked to too far too many meetings and business visits to count throughout the last twenty years of serving as an economic developer. I have walked trade show floors probably well over a hundred times.

A topic for multiple upcoming stories, I also walk a number of miles most days during my lunch break, so it is not like I spend all day every day parked on my posterior.

But, for the most part, I have spent the majority of my work hours seated at a desk.
