How Did You Do on Your Midterms?

What are your midterm grades so far this year?

Remember Your Midterms?

Remember those midterm exams and papers that always seemed to sneak up on you sooner than expected back in your high school and/or college days?

Midway through the semester, the instructor would assign a research paper or schedule an exam to see what you have learned about eight weeks into the semester? In that sense, the midterms would sometimes serve as a wake-up call for guys like me who often started the semesters strong but would fade out as the weeks went by. Skip an assignment here or there. Go out with your friends or watch TV instead of studying.

Oftentimes, when my midterm grades were below what they should be, say a C or D in a class where I should be getting a B or a B in a class where I should be getting an A, I would buckle down a bit and resolve to do better. In many classes where I was pulling a solid B, I would continue cruising “as is,” putting in as little effort as possible to finish the semester with that grade.

Midterm in Your Life

Besides the few actual students who may happen upon this, the rest of us in the adult world are, more or less, in a lifelong year-round exam situation. Rarely does a month or week go by without some challenge coming your way, whether it be related to your work, health, family…
