Member-only story
It’s been a very long time since I’ve had a hero.
Sure, there are many people who I admire including a few who write on this platform.
But it has been years since there has been a person who I would consider a hero.
President Volodymyr Zelensky is that person and has become the face of Ukraine’s resistance against Russian President Vladimir Putin’s invading forces.
Mr. Zelensky came into power with little traditional political experience. Before he was elected, he was best known for playing a television role as an ordinary schoolteacher who accidentally catapulted into power. The show, “Servant of the People,” ran for four years, making him a household name.
Since the Russian strikes began on Feb. 24, Mr. Zelensky has captured the world’s imagination, often dressing in ballistic vests as he urges people to press the fight during videos he posts to Telegram, Facebook, and Instagram from the center of Kyiv.
I have rendered this depiction of him in the style of famous Ukrainian artist Oleksandr Balbyshev.
It is available on OpenSea for the equivalent of $200 USD. If sold, three-quarters of the ETH will be transferred to the account verified by Ukraine’s foreign minister to help thwart the Russian invasion.
I have rendered another similar token in the style of a different Ukrainian artist and will list and share it tomorrow.
