Why I Turned Down More Than $100 Million This Week

I just had to share that I turned down well over $100 million this past week.

That’s right folks!

Over one hundred times as much as that magical seven-figure number that so many of us bite, claw and hustle our ways to over a period of many years and possibly decades. Most of us never attain it.

But how many times does one turn down $100 million worth of investments? Let alone in one week?

You did not think that I turned that much down personally, did you? Me, who has to work nearly every day of the year and thirty-some-odd night meetings to boot for a bit over one hundred K? Not a chance!

Nevertheless, it was not just a little bit painful, but extremely painful for me to turn down what would have amounted to at least one hundred million smackers invested into the town that employs me primarily to attract new investment, development, and businesses to it.

I do not write about it often, but I have now spent over twenty-one years as an economic development professional. It is my so-called “day job” and once you, too, have spent tens of thousands of hours doing something, it becomes less and less of something that you want to relive and recount later on.
